I love flying remote control airplanes. I know a lot of people are obsessed with a certain sports team or golf or any number of other activities but my passion is rc planes. There is nothing like going out to an open field and flying a plane for hours.
Flying RC planes is one of the few hobbies that consistently gets you outside in the fresh air. I’ve never been a big fan of being cooped up in the house all day so flying planes in the great outdoors appeals to me.
I started out racing remote control cars with my friends when I was a kid but once a saw an RC plane flying at a local park, I was mesmerized by its flight pattern and I knew I had to have one. It took me a while to save up for my first RC plane but it was one of the best investments I have ever made.
I’ve tried flying RC helicopters but nothing comes close to the feeling I get watching my planes swoop down out of the sky.
One of the newest things that I have done is to mount a camera to my plane and record each flight. I’ve seen plenty of online videos and decided to try it myself. I bought a cheap digital video camera and taped it the bottom of my plane. (I’ve since had a friend build me a sweet mounting block that fits my camera perfectly.)
Watching the flight videos is awesome. It almost makes me feel like I am flying. Even the crashes are pretty cool. This is just another way I can enjoy this hobby.
I don’t think I will ever out grow or get tired of this hobby, there is just so much to learn and enjoy about it. I can’t imagine spending my weekends any other way.
